Jeff Gonzales EDC
Jeff Gonzales of Trident Concepts carries a variety of items in his EDC kit, and they may change, depending on his environment. Shown here with a Glock, Gonzales currently carries a Sig Sauer P320 Compact (see below).

At SureFire, we’re always interested in the gear choices of the trainers we work with regularly. With the marked increase in EDC / concealed carry due to the recent pandemic, we thought we’d visit the topic by asking a few of them to share info on their EDC kits and provide a brief explanation of the whats, hows, and whys.

Jeff Gonzales of Trident Concepts (TRICON) is a supreme authority on the subject of EDC. Among its many training options, TRICON offers comprehensive courses focused on concealed carry tactics and equipment. Gonzales has also appeared in SureFire’s Field Notes video series on YouTube. In Episode 30, he discusses considerations for concealed carry in the workplace. To view Episode 30, CLICK HERE.

While he was happy to start our series, Gonzales was also quick to point out that what you see here might not be what he’ll be carrying tomorrow.

“My carry loadout is in a constant state of flux,” he says. “As my situation, environment, and assessment change, I’ve adapted my loadout to accommodate as best as possible.

“My go-to handgun has been from the SIG family,” Gonzales continues. “It started with the SIG P365, Emerson folder, and the TRICON mini-fixed blade. As our environment changed and we saw a pandemic, rioting, and defunding the police, it evolved to a larger loadout. I went with the SIG P320 Compact in a JM Custom Scabbard, Emerson folder, and TRICON fixed blade along with a SUREFIRE STILETTO and POM pepper spray. The frame upgrade provided me with faster follow-up shots and a larger magazine capacity. The larger fixed blade and pepper spray became my go-to in and around crowds. The white light added utility when you include extended storms and power outages to the mix.

“I get asked all the time what I carry and why,” Gonzales concludes. “This sums up what I was carrying the day I took the picture, but it will evolve as the situation dictates. There is no single solution. There is your ability to adapt and be ready.”
